RPM is pleased to bring you the first in a new cross-hemisphere collaboration with Sovereign Trax—a new music space for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander music, identities and resistance—based in and around “Australia”.

Guest contributor Hannah Donnelly drops knowledge about the project and shares the latest SovTrax playlist with us. Listen up.

Sovereign Trax //// 35.3080° S, 149.1245° E

There are so many deadly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists out there, both emerging and established, experimenting across genres, spitting heavy hitting rhymes and killin it daily.

Sovereign Trax is a nue subversive space for our creative music makerz.

Currently based on Wurundjeri land, Sovereign Trax curates a monthly playlist of the maddest tunes from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists around “Australia” and increases visibility for them via soundcloud, social medz, and feature write-ups on the Sovereign Trax blog. As a new platform pushing forward the creation and consumption of our own music through our own paradigms, Sovereign Trax aims to inspire an environment that speaks to our collective stories, identities and resistance.

Sovereign Trax is a project that sits within a broader autonomous collective called Sovereign Apocalypse. The concept of Sovereign Apocalypse [#SOVAPOC] is a based on future imaginings of total Indigenous sovereignty. We have just launched into space with the first issue of our #SOVAPOC zine which aims to invert the gaze of white privilege. Ultimately the zine hopes to host contributions from some of our sikest talent. You can cop the zine here.

This is about creating sovereign spaces for our own sovereign expressions. The latest Sovereign Trax November playlist features one of our Gamilaroi brothers Provocalz who is consistently reppin that raw hip hop. And a personal fav is the flawless voice of Cassandra Williams from Ntara, she is currently recording her EP with CAAMA and it’s gonna be one to keep an eye out for.

Sovereign Trax has released four monthly playlists so far, so don’t be slippin’, get into the latest November vibes and support our mob!
