On this most colonial of holidays, here’s something worth celebrating.
Tkaronto has been a hotbed of Indigenous music this year, and RPM has been proud to play a part in supporting the growth of new spaces for Indigenous arts to flourish. Indigenous music is increasingly able to be heard, seen, and shared across the city with other allied and interconnected creative communities.
This Friday, RPM joins forces with the Harbourfront Centre and Toronto’s longest-running queer dance party YES YES Y’ALL to bring you UNCEDED—the official opening night afterparty for Our Home On Native Land—a festival of resistance arts and celebration running throughout the colonial long weekend.
With many people feeling ambivalent about, if not outright disinterested in, “celebrating” Canada’s ongoing colonial present, UNCEDED offers a unique space for artists and community to be built around decolonization and getting down on the dancefloor.
All the way from BC, RPM Records artists MOB BOUNCE will be back in Tkaronto to rock the house. MMVA-winning director of A Tribe Called Red‘s “R.E.D.” and acclaimed hip-hop artist NARCY will a bring live audio-visual performance to the stage. Winnipeg’s freshest DJ and producer, Anishinaabe artist BOOGEY THE BEAT will bring the ruckus. And the gang from YES YES Y’ALL will DJ throughout the night.

OUR HOME ON NATIVE LAND FESTIVAL
“Our Home On Native Land reveals the connective threads that exist between Indigenous and diverse, newcomer communities”, says festival curator Rhéanne Chartrand, “in their creative contributions to the artistic and cultural fabric of Canada, or Kanata. [The] festival takes its title from…well-known act[s] of resistance committed by Indigenous peoples across Canada.”
This is evident in the diversity of artists from multiple communities that will be attending and performing throughout the weekend, including:
